I've been looking at packaging the Oracle client tools for Debian for a while now since they're often useful on pentests, especially on our larger customer sites. Anyway, whilst doing a spot of Googling, I discovered that Oracle themselves already provide packages. Anyway, to install Oracle XE including the client tools, simply add the following to your sources.list file:

deb http://oss.oracle.com/debian unstable main non-free

Then apt-get update && apt-get install oracle-xe oracle-xe-client. Several minutes later (or in my case after I'd created additional temporary swap to satisfy the installer), you'll have an Oracle XE server installed.
